Columbia REA is proud to recognize 4 local High School seniors for their exceptional accomplishments as students and their outstanding commitment to their community.
Columbia REA established the scholarship program in 1999. This year, the Clark A. Brewington Scholarship Program, named in memory of former Columbia REA General Manager Clark Brewington, has been awarded to 3 local students living within the Columbia REA service area.
The Clark A. Brewington Memorial Scholarship is a $12,000 scholarship, paid in annual installments of $3,000 for 4 consecutive academic years.
The $3,000 Columbia REA Jeff Meredith Scholarship Program is named in honor of former Columbia REA lineman Jeff Meredith. This scholarship is awarded up to twice a year and is intended to assist with continuing education opportunities for qualifying persons who are enrolled or will be enrolled in a recognized Electrical Lineworker Program (ELP).
This scholarship will contribute $3,000 to the recipient’s Line School account for fees and tuition expenses upon successfully enrolling at a recognized lineworker’s school.
“I am just so grateful. I think the word I’m looking for is empowering, or reassuring, for me to know that not only has the work that I’ve done paid off, but that the community around me is so supportive. Hopefully 1 day I can be in the same position, so I can be supportive of young kids’ education.”
“I’m very excited. It’s really going to help me attend the program that I want to go into. I’m very grateful. I’m going into the University of Washington Computer Science Program. Receiving the money is really going to help with that. I’m very excited and honored really to be chosen. I did not expect to be chosen.”
“Winning this scholarship really means a lot to me. Its going to allow me to continue my education and to get my degree. I plan to go into Nursing. I really hope I can make an impact on other people’s lives and do something meaningful. This will help me move forward toward my dream of doing that.”
“This scholarship is definitely going to help me take this first step in a process that I’ve wanted to do since 10th Grade. Without this scholarship I don’t know if I would even be able to have that opportunity. With the scholarship, I am going to be able to do what I love, and eventually, help out a lot of people. It’s an awesome opportunity.”
