My first year of college at the University of Idaho was more fulfilling and full of opportunities for personal growth than I would have ever expected. At the beginning of my freshman year I joined a sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, which has led me to meet wonderful individuals and grow tremendously as a person. In this chapter, I have taken on the role of Academic Development Director where I provide other members with support in their academics and learning.
I also took on roles in many other clubs and activities in the university. This past year I was involved in Collegiate Young Farmers and Ranchers, where I have taken on the role of County Liaison and am a official board member of the Latah County Farm Bureau; I played in the University of Idaho Orchestra; and I was recently elected as a College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Ambassador.
I also worked as a student intern at the USA Dry Pea and Lentil Council. In this position I interacted with members in the industry, helped to organize our annual Western Pulse Growers Annual Meeting, and much more.
On the academics side, I had a great first year of classes and ended both semesters on the Dean’s List. My favorite class so far has been Agriculture Markets and Prices. I am now currently working as an administrative intern at Beef Northwest in North Powder for the summer.
I have many exciting things coming up this semester, including my trip to Washington, DC for the AFA Agriculture Policy Institute with a selection of only 40 students across the nation.
Thank you, Columbia REA! Many of my experiences would not be possible without your support and generosity.
